When the internet isn’t saturating the landscape with Orwellian narratives, you have to admire how the World Wide Web lives up to its name. This time we have a three continent degrees of separation, Africa – Europe – North America. Our long-time friend ABA in South Africa (which has recently suffered terrible storm damage) drew my attention back to a Bordeaux bookstore, Librairie Mollat, in a topic we covered five years ago. For instance:
I admire this exceptionally clever example:
This time we have an official hashtag label, #bookface, and others can take part in the Bookface Challenge. Here then is another list of bookfaces, mostly new, but a few from before. Notice how the technique has evolved and become even more precise:
I've got to love the imagination:

Check out the rest of the lot. Meanwhile below, Leigh needs practice, lots of practice: #birdface
The Terry Gilliam Do-It-Yourself Cover
ABA, always a step ahead, suggested another item, reminiscent of the above.

And finally, a message to Edgar Winner R.T. Lawton for his story “The Road to Hana’,
Congratulations, R.T!
Yes! Congrats, R. T.!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteIndeed, Jeff. I'm pleased you're the first to chime in.
DeleteWow. And wow again.
ReplyDeleteThanks, O'Neil!
DeleteVery clever and some handsome covers. Congratulations to R.T. That is lovely news!, Best, Janice PS I can't figure out how to comment
ReplyDeleteJanice, be sure to sign in to Blogger. You can also sign on with the link in the upper right corner at the top of the page. And thank you!
DeleteWhat great covers. Love the idea. And congratulations to R.T. Wow!
ReplyDeleteThey're clever and subtle at once. It would be a fun bookstore to visit. Which reminds me… I visited a mammoth bookstore. Their art book selection was extensive. Their graphic novel section alone was the size of an ordinary store.
DeleteA large part of the store was dedicated to art and artist supplies. The best part was a selection of famous art icons (featuring Gustav Klimt and Hieronymus Bosch among others) rendered into 3D. I couldn't allow myself to buy any one of them because I would have wanted it all!
That was pre-Amazon days, so I don't know if it survives or not.
These covers are terrific.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to RT for his Edgar Award, and to John Floyd and Michael Bracken for their Derringer Awards. Quite a week...
Thanks, Steve, and thanks for mentioning Michael and John.
DeleteExcellent covers.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
And hearty congratulations to John Floyd and Michael Bracken on the Derringers!!!
Excellent, RT. Thank you and glad you survived!
DeleteMy apologies for the [video] problem, which worked in some browsers and not others. It should be working now, a fun moment. (For those interested, the [video] tag fully worked only in Firefox and Safari didn't like the [object] tag. I ended up going through YouTube.)
ReplyDeleteI love bookfaces. We even made one for my book: https://robertlopresti.blogspot.com/2018/03/when-women-didnt-count-bookfaced.html
ReplyDeleteThere you go! Well done, Rob.
